You can start with something really simple. Plain geometrical patterns – squares or rectangle pieces of fabric. Once you connect all the pieces together, you can use the fabric to make lot of different things. Check it here for example at Moda Fabrics Blog

Once you master your skills, you can create pretty amazing things. But for those, you would really need much more training and experience.
